Mixed martial art is a full body combat sport that involves a variety of hand, leg and body movements. Evolved from the early Greco-Roman sport Pankration and a creative blend of wrestling and boxing, mixed martial arts is considered one of the most physically demanding fighter sports in the world. Since the key difference between wresting, wushu, boxing and mixed martial arts is the fact that it allows a larger number of free limb gestures as the fighter tries to defeat the opponent, mixed martial arts techniques are many. This article briefs you on some of the basic mixed martial arts techniques that every participant is supposed to know.

The most commonly known mixed martial arts techniques include sprawl and brawl, Clinch fighting, ground and pound and sub-seeking. Even though there were no direct rules in mixed martial arts some decades ago, today there are numerous clear cut limitations as to what a fighter can do to an opponent. Whatever mixed martial arts technique used, fighters are not allowed to bite, strike at the groin, grouch eyes, manipulate small joints and do minor comebacks such as spitting or scratching the opponent. Let us take a comprehensive look at each of the mixed martial arts techniques listed above.

Sprawl and brawl

This is a stand-up technique in which both fighters remain upright while striking one another. This is a great technique to be practiced to avoid hitting the floor when an opponent strikes down. As you may know, karate, boxing and other similar forms of combat sports use this technique commonly. In fact, Sprawl and brawl is the mixed martial arts technique that is taught first to any newcomer to the sport.

Ground and pound

As the name clearly states, this is the mixed martial arts technique in which the fighter can bring the opponent to the ground. Fans love this move. The fighter who performs a ground and pound must fall on top of the opponent and acquire the dominant position in order to defeat the opponent. Practicing tactful grappling skills enables the combater who is in the submissive position to get the other off him and get back in the game.

Clinch fighting

This is a manipulative method used to ensure that the opponent doesn’t get into a wider striking range. In other words, clinch fighting or grapping hold of the opponent keeps him or her close to you so that they cannot perform too many unpredictable moves. This mixed martial arts technique can be practiced while kicking, pushing or punching so that the control of the fight can be directed anyway you wish.

Submission grappling or sub- seeking

This is mixed martial arts technique that is very similar to regular grappling which is a part of any combat sport. Most fighters manage to win the game by a tactful, skillful and firm sub-seeking move.
